Chapter 2: Developing Big Brothers Big Sisters Programs And Boys And Girls Clubs

Contacting The National Organizations

All Big Brothers Big Sisters programs are members of the national Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada organization, and all Boys and Girls Clubs are members of the national Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada organization. Members receive many supports, training opportunities, access to national programs, and the right to use the Big Brothers Big Sisters or Boys and Girls Club brand names. They are required to pay annual dues and meet national membership requirements or service delivery and organizational standards15.

If you have not already been in touch with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada or Boys and Girls Clubs Of Canada16, you should make this one of the first steps in developing the program in your community. The national staff can help to get you on the right track with important information, such as the design of the programs, the requirements that must be met, and any other Big Brothers Big Sisters or Boys and Girls Club organizations that are operating, or have operated in the past, in your region. They might also be able to suggest some creative ideas and valuable contacts to get you started, and to help you clear hurdles along the way.
